This is a new work recently recorded and filmed for “The Conscious Musician – Drums in 4-D”, Mark’s vbook based on Jack Lima’s Dictionary of Rhythm. It requires all four limbs to play a combination of motifs, beats, subdivisions and accents, and then switches the role of each limb, so that every possible combination is played. Not only is it a challenge for your coordination, but also for your time/tempo and dynamics. It’s also a great method for mental practice, when you’re not at the kit.
In lesson 1, the left foot plays the motif (M), the right foot plays the accent (A), the left hand plays the subdivision (S) and the right hand plays the beat (B):
